MY JOB INTERVIEW

I had a job interview today. It was pretty nerve recking because I am a very shy person around new people. I am applying for a job for the break, so I could have money for books and neccesities. The lady who interviewed me was very nice. She asked me about college and my past work experience. She complimented me on my strong hand shake. I don't know if I got the job yet, but I'm hopeful. There are many positions available and they said they desperately need the help. It is always a little hard to remain professional during these interviews because I am a very open person and sometimes I say too much. I think I did pretty well though so I hope they hire me. It's always important to stay positive! ; )

PLATO WAS CLEARLY CRAZY!!!

One of the authors that most attracted my attention is Plato; his views on life were very different from what they are today. He exhibted some of his theories in the book "The Republic". Plato had a theory about what would be the best state of mind for society, that "ideal state" was called utopia. In this ideal state there would be no poets, actors, singers or any type of liberal arts occupations. In the book "The Republic" Plato states "Poetry corrupts even the best soul." It's ironic how these same poetics and liberal arts movements have practically become our life today. Plato believed that the truth of life (reality) was changed by art meaning reality was distorted. The truth goes through the following phases: the truth in all its "forms", life how it is represented and the truth through Art. Modern day authors don't agree with this. Oscar Wilde once said "All that I desire to point out is the general principle that Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life (Ziegesar 33). I think Plato's fears were over-rated. Life should be full of art, passion and emotions. I think that's true Utopia.

IBOGAINE: THE CURE TO DRUG ADDICTION

In class we have been discussing psychoactive that grows in some plants called Ibogaine. The substance that is extracted from iboga plants helps drug addicts lose all need for any drug in a matter of days or even hours. This plant originated in Africa and was simply used for rituals. Ibogaine was discovered by accident in the 1960's wgen given to a heroin addict and his need for the drug withered away in a few hours. Howard Lotsof, an ex drug addict wants to patent this substance in the United States. Our government does not want to approve it due to its hallucinogenic properties. What this means is the this substance makes you see things that are not really. That side effect only lasts a few hours following a long resting period. Canada and Mexico are some of the known countries that use ibogaine. It has proven to be very effective in these countries. If anyone wants to know more about ibogaine Howard Lotsof will be coming to the College of Staten Island on December 3rd.

OWN UP TO WHAT YOU DO!!!

An issuse a lot of people have is owning up to what they do. It's human nature to blame our mistakes and shor comings on other people. But there comes a time that if we don't own up to things we lose more than we gain. Sometimes when we hurt the people we love we try to down play the things we have done thinking we're making things better, but we're not. We need to own up to the things we do so we can truly be forgiven. If you down play your mistakes the people you hurt will think you don't care about what you did and they will never completely forgive you. that's why I have decided to do just that. I am going to own up to some of the things I've done that have hurt the man I love in hopes he can forgive me and also to motivate anyone who reads my blog to do the same. As I have written in the past I have a very specail person in my life and we have been together for 3 years. In the course of these 3 years we have been thru a lot and I have much of the blame for that. I have done some things I am not proud of, but my baby has always forgiven me. One of the biggest mistakes I did was breaking up with him when we were going thru a rough patch in our relationship. He was truy trying to attempt to fix things between us and I started dating someone else. there were other extraneous details that caused me to make this decision but I was still wrong for doing this. I hurt him greatly and I lost his trust. In spite of that he forgave me and we got back together. Besides that incident we have had other fights where I have said and done some terrible things. This last fight we had was one of the worst ever. I told him I regretted the 3 years we were together and many other awful things. I said this out of fear and anger because I'm so afraid of losing him. It's stupid how sometimes we do and say the dumbest things out of fear of losing the people we love. We don't realize that that fear can potential make us lose the people/things we love. Because of my actions the love of my life, my best friend isn't talking to me. I hope he read this and sees how sorry I am for what I have done. I love him so much and I am willing to own up to what I did. I was wrong and I don't desrve another chance, but I would like one. He isn't perfect either but I love him and I know he would never hurt me. SLC, I hope you can forgive me. You are the best thing that ever happened to me and I know I need to be a better woman for you. pleas give me another chance!!! For everyone else reading this, learn from my mistakes!

PASSION, LOVE AND GOOD MEN

The rapper Ice-T once said in one of his raps "Passion makes the world go round. Love just makes it a safe place." I complelely agree with this statement. That's the way my significant other makes me feel. His love makes me feel so protected and peaceful. The passion we have between each other makes life exciting. Even though our relationship is a little crazy I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! He is sweet, sexy, smart, generous, funny and caring. Sometimes I lose sight of all of this because me and him have been together for 3 years. When couples take each other for granted, fights and disagreements tend to occur. This has happened at times in my relationship. I want to use this opportunity to apologize to my baby for being ungrateful and hurtful at times. I love and appreciate him very much. Sometimes I'm so afraid of losing him I get crazy and do stupid shit. I truly wish I could take back some of the things I've said and done in anger. Ladies, don't make the same mistake as me! If you have a good man like mine be good to him and don't be petty! Don't ruin a good relationship out of fear. Everyone desrves to be loved.

A FEW WEEKS AGO WE READ AN EXCERPT FROM A BOOK ABOUT BIRTH ORDER IN ENGLISH CLASS. MY TEACHER LOVES TO TALK ABOUT THAT. BUT AS AN ONLY CHILD I WONDERED, "WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS GOT TO DO WITH ME?" I DON'T FIT INTO ANY OF THIS. I AM MY MOTHER'S FIRST AND ONLY CHILD. I'M PRETTY SURE THERE'S NO SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ON THAT!!! BUT WHILE READING THE EXCERPT OUR PROFESSOR GAVE US (BIRTH ORDER AND SIBLING COMPETTION) I FOUND OUT THERE IS SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ABOUT US!!! OUR SCIENTIFIC NAME IS SINGLETONS, WE EXPERIENCE CHILDHOOD WITH NO SIBLING COMPETITION AND NO PARENTAL DISCRIMINATION. THERE IS A QUOTE IN THE READING THAT STATES THAT WERE ARE "...CONSCIENTIOUS AND PARETNAL-IDENTIFIED, AS WELL AS... EXHIBITING ABOVE-AVERAGE LEVELS IN ACHIEVEMENTS" (DUNBAR, 304). I AGREE WITH THIS BECAUSE I'VE ALWAYS DONE GOOD IN SCHOOL AND I'VE BEEN ABOVE-AVERAGE IN CERTAIN SUBJECTS. BUT I ALSO KNOW ONLY CHILDREN THAT DO NOT FIT THIS DESCRIPTION. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPANISH GUYS AND BLACK GUYS

I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO PISS OFF A LOT OF SPANISH GUYS AND I JUST WANT TO APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE. I JUST FEEL THE NEED TO EXPRESS HOW EXCITING AND UNIQUE BLACK MEN ARE. A LOT OF SPANISH MEN ARE SEXIESTS AND IMMATURE. THEY ARE ALWAYS FIGHITNG AND COMPLAINING ABOUT WOMEN. BUT BLACK MEN ARE STRONG IN CHARACTER YET LAID'BACK AND NOT SO ARGUMENTIVE. SPANISH MEN CAN BE VERY UNATTENTIVE AND SELFISH. BLACK MEN ARE THE OPPOSITE. THEY'RE ARE ALWAYS THEIR TO HOLD YOU DOWN. THEY'RE RESPONSIBLE AND CAN BE SENSITIVE WHEN IT'S APPROPRIATE. SPANISH GUYS DON'T ALWAYS KNOW HOW TO DO THAT. BLACK MEN ARE ALSO VERY GENEROUS AND CHARMING. MOST SPANISH MEN ONLY DO THAT WHEN THEY WANT SOMETHING IN RETURN. INTERRACIAL RELATIONS

I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO BE A LITTLE CONTROVERSIAL BUT I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT. FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS OF MY LIFE I'VE BEEN GOING OUT WITH A SWEET AND VERY SEXY BLACK MAN. AT FIRST EVERYONE THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY. MY FAMILY IS VERY AGAINST DATING PEOPLE FROM OTHER NATIONALIITES. BUT I HAVE AlWAYS BEEN THE REBELLIOUS ONE. I WAS ALWAYS BORED IN MY PAST RELATIONSHIPS. THE MEN I WAS INVOLVED WITH DIDN'T SHARE THE SENSE OF ADVENTURE, THE CHARISMA OR THE CHARM TO KEEP ME SATISIFIED. UNFORTUNATELY, THOSE MEN WERE HISPANIC. BUT GETTING INVOLVED WITH MY CURRENT MATE HAS BEEN A DAILY (VERY INTERESTING) ADVENTURE. HE IS SO CREATIVE AND SINCERE. OUR RELATIONSHIP IS RIDE OR DIE. WE WOULD DO ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING FOR EACH OTHER. I DON'T THINK I COULD HAVE EVER HAD A RELATIONSHIP LIKE THIS WITH SOMEONE FROM MY NATIONALITY. I WOULD NEVER HAVE HAD SO MANY INTERESTING EXPERIENCES AND LEARNED SO MANY STIMULATING THINGS. BUT THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. I'LL HAVE MORE TO SHARE NEXT TIME. THINGS WERE SO DIFFERENT WHEN I WAS YOUNGER...

I HAD THE FUNNIEST CONVERSATION WITH MY 10 YEAR OLD COUSIN YESTERDAY! HER NAME IS MARIA AND SHE LIVES IN MISSOURI. SHE CALLS ME YESTERDAY TO INFORM ME WITH MUCH PRIDE THAT SHE BEAT THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF 3 GIRLS IN HER CLASS. I ASKED HER WHY SHE DID IT AND SHE TOLD IT ME IT WAS OVER A BOY. APPARETNTLY ONE OF THE LITTLE GIRLS BOYFRIENDS BROKE UP WITH HER TO ASK OUT MY COUSIN MARIA. SO THE THREE LITTLE GIRLS CAME UP TO MARIA AND STARTED BOTHERING HER. MARIA AS HIGH STRUNG AS SHE IS COULDN'T TAKE IT AND SMACKED ONE OF THE GIRLS. THIS MADE THE OTHER TWO GIRLS JUMPED IN, SO MARIA CHOKED ONE OF THE OTHER GIRLS AND THE OTHER ONE RAN. I WAS LISTENING TO HER SHOCKED. WHEN I WAS 10, BOYS HAD COOTIES AND LITTLE GIRLS ARGUED ABOUT DOLLS. BUT NOW A ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FIGHT SOUNDS LIKE A SOAP OPERA. THIS IS JUST TOO FUNNY BUT AT THE SAME TIME SLIGHTLY ALARMING...

CRAZY RICANS STRIKE AGAIN!!!

I DON'T KNOW HOW ANYONE CAN BE BORED WHEN BEING BORN INTO A PUERTO RICAN FAMILY!!! MY RELATIVES ARE CRAZY AS HELL. MY LITTLE COUSIN GOT IN TROUBLE ONCE AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE BAD HABITS OUR FAMILY HAS. EVERYONE IN OUR FAMILY HAS THEIR OWN SILLY NICKNMAES GIVEN BY CERTAIN RELATIVES. SOME OF THESE NICKNAMES ARE DUMB, BUT WHATEVER THEY'RE STILL NICKNMAES. WELL WHEN MY COUSIN JOSE WAS LITTLE HE COULDN'T PRONOUNCE MY NAME. HE ALWAYS USE TO CALL ME VACA, WHICH MEANS COW IN SPANISH. HE'S OLDER NOW, HE COULD PRONOUNCE MY NAME YET HE STILL CALLS ME VACA. HE WAS TELLING HIS CLASSMATES ABOUT HIS COUSIN "VACA" YESTERDAY WHEN THE TEACHER THOUGHT HE SAID A CURSE WORD IN SPANISH. MY COUSIN PLEADED WITH THE TEACHER AND TOLD HER "IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK. IT MEANS COW IN SPANISH, MY COUSIN'S A COW!!!" UNFORTUNATELY, SHE DIDN'T BELIEVE IT AND MY COUSIN GOT SUSPENDED FOR CURSING. I SWEAR HE WILL NEVER CALL ME VACA AGAIN.

MY GRANDPA AND I ARE ALWAYS DEBATING ABOUT HOW FUNNY (OR NOT FUNNY) HISPANIC COMEDIANS ARE. HE LOVES WATCHING HISPANIC COMEDIANS ON T.V. HE WATCHES SOME RETARDED ARGENTIANIAN VARIETY SHOW DAILY. ALL THEY TALK ABOUT IS GIRLS, SPORTS AND SEX. ALL THERE JOKES ALWAYS END UP WITH SOME GUY GETTING CHEATED ON OR A BAD DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT. A HARD DAY IN SUNSET

YESTERDAY WAS ONE OF THE WORST DAYS OF MY LIFE. MY COUSIN GOT JUMPED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT ON THE CORNER OF HIS HOUSE. HE WAS SIMPLY ON HIS WAY TO WORK AND ENDED UP BEING BEATEN UNCONCIOUS. I DON'T KNOW HOW PEOPLE CAN DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THIS IS TERRIBLE. HALF HIS JAW HAD TO BE WIRED SHUT DUE TO A FRACTURED JAW AND LOOSE TEETH. MY COUSIN IS AN ASPIRING MODEL WHO IS WORKING AND GOING TO SCHOOL. HE'S NEVER HURT ANYBODY AND HE'S ONLY BEEN LIVING IN BROOKLYN FOR A FEW MONTHS. IT'S INCREDIBLE THE HORRIBLE THINGS CERTAIN PEOPLE WOULD DO. IT MAKES ME WONDER HOW SAFE WE ARE IN THE CITY....

LIFE IN SUNSET PARK

TODAY HAS BEEN A CRAZY DAY HERE IN SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN!!! IT'S ONLY 11:44AM AND I WITNESSED A FIGHT... IT'S CRAZY REALLY. I'VE LIVED HERE ALL MY LIFE AND I JUST NEVER GET BORED. THIS OLD BORICUA (PUERTO RICAN) COUPLE WAS ARGUING IN THE RAIN. THEY WERE CURSING LIKE CRAZY. APPARENTLY THE OLD MAN CHEATED ON THE LADY! WORST PART WAS THAT HE WAS CHEATING ON HER WITH HER FRIEND!!! ICOULD NOT STOP LAUGHING. MY FRIEND DOESN'T SPEAK ENGLISH SO SHE WAS STANDING FRIGHTENED NEXT TO ME. THE LOOK ON HER FACE IS PRICELESS. I HOPE THAT IN 50 YEARS SOME KID WON'T BE WRITING A BLOGON THIS CRAZY BORICUA HAVING A FIGHTIN PUBLIC!!!
